Ten Healthy Wedding Cake Alternatives
by Patrece Johnson & Amber Coleman on 06/16/11
This Guest post was submitted by Wendy Bailey. Enjoy!!!
While wedding cakes are a traditional part of most weddings, more and more people are deciding to look for healthier alternatives. A traditional wedding cake is usually very high in sugar, fat and calories and can leave wedding guests feeling bloated and not at all in the mood to dance. This article will help the bride and groom see that delicious and unique healthier alternatives are available for their big day.
Cool Off at a Summer Wedding
- Frozen yogurt. Whether it's vanilla, chocolate or any other sweet flavor guests will love this delectable choice. A great health benefit of yogurt is that it contains probiotics. This beneficial live bacteria helps promote good intestinal health. Top off this delicious choice with chilled fruit, and guests won't soon forget this unique wedding dessert.
- Low fat ice cream. On a hot afternoon or evening, what could be more refreshing than a cup of cold ice cream? As it is made with low fat or fat free milk, this ice cream is a delicious treat that won't weigh down the guests.
- Fruit smoothie. Who doesn't like a fruit smoothie? Blended with tangy berries, sweet strawberries, delicious bananas and any other desired fruits, this healthy wedding cake alternative will be an instant hit! To make it a little creamier, add vanilla flavored organic frozen yogurt or low fat milk.
Fall Wedding Cake Alternatives
- Apples. Ripe fall apples can be stacked into the form of a wedding cake. Caramel coated apple wedges are a delicious way to fill in the gaps of this apple cake. Decorate the top of the cake with beautiful apple blossoms and this will be a truly unforgettable wedding cake.
- Cheese cake. Wedding guests will be truly excited when they see this ever popular alternative to a traditional wedding cake. Low fat cream cheese can be substituted instead of regular, and sliced fruit can be used to top off the small slices. A cheese cake tower beautifully displays slices in the form of a traditional wedding cake. If oats are used in the crust of the cheese cake, guests will unknowingly receive a healthy dose of probiotics (http://probiotics.org/">probiotics</a).
- Pumpkin pie. This traditional fall-like pie will be an instant fall wedding success. The crust can be made with whole wheat or spelt flour as a healthier option. A dash of low fat whipped topping will make this healthy wedding cake substitute truly satisfying.
Other Great Alternatives
- Cupcakes. To help control portion size, many have decided to serve small cupcakes instead of large pieces of wedding cake. It's also a good idea to make the cupcakes in a variety of flavors, giving guests the option to choose which flavor they like best.
- Organic wedding cake. Some brides just cannot deal with the thought of not having a wedding cake on their big day. If they still want to go healthy, an organic wedding cake may be in order. This organic cake can contain http://www.glutenfreeliving.com/">spelt or gluten free flour instead of refined white flour, and carob instead of chocolate. A caterer can surely fill the couple in on all the healthy cake options available.
- Yogurt. Low fat or organic yogurt served in wine glasses is an elegant wedding cake alternative. Fresh fruit can be placed on top, making this dessert option not only delicious but very classy.
- Muffins. This all American favorite can be made with apples, carrots and nuts as another great alternative. Oats and whole wheat flour can provide essential fiber. A dab of icing on top can make this healthy option truly mouthwatering.
Color Selections for your Wedding
by Patrece Johnson & Amber Coleman on 05/25/11
Brides have a lot to think about, once the proposal comes. What venue, church, what flowers, attendants, etcetera. While these questions are pivotal, there is one pressing question that needs to be answered. What are the wedding colors?
Your wedding colors could be anything you want them to be. Some say base the colors on the time of year. For instance, winter weddings usually include a lot of blue hues, and a spring wedding may include pastels. However, I say that you can choose whatever color you wish, not just based on what time of year. You can base the color on your loved ones eye color perhaps or if you just have a favorite color. If most of the clothes in your closet are green go with a "green" no pun intended wedding. If you have always been a fan of chartreuse go with it! With that being said remember that whatever color you chose remember that for the rest of your married life you will have to look at those wedding pictures. Therefore, a puke green color may not be the best idea regardless if that is your favorite color. Also, think of your bridal party and chose a color that is flattering. Your bridesmaids will hate the orange crush dress you picked out for them.
Although, this is you and your grooms day it would be a good idea to collaborate the colors to produce a beautiful color palate, and not just humdrum color where everything in the pictures will be monotone and boring. As the bride you must also think about what feeling you want your guests to have and maybe even wear. Some weddings the guests don the same color, or a similar shade as the bridal party. Again, this can make for beautiful colorful pictures and great memories for years to come.
